Nike Killshot Vintage

Lena’s keepin’ me literally “laced” with the new goodness. Got myself a new pair of shoes for when I play squash! Yep, racquet sports is where the name “Killshot” came from. This re-issue given a vintage look is really set nicely with the slightly yellowed soles and distressed logos. Watch out Lena, I think Vampire Weekend’s gonna knocking down your door to get these! Thanks for the hooded pull-over too! That’ll be good for those chilly night bike rides.

Merry Karnowsky Gallery is proud to present “I’ll Hit You Up Tomorrow,” a solo exhibition by Australian artist Kill Pixie. The opening reception will be hosted by actor Tim Roth, and the exhibition features a collaborative installation by Kill Pixie and the band Autolux.
Kill Pixie (AKA Mark Whalen) began as a graffiti artist on the streets of Sydney, Australia. His medium of choice nowadays is mostly ink and acrylic on paper mounted to wood, and coated in shiny resin. Inextricably embedded in their geometric, candy-colored environments, Kill Pixie’s humanoid characters are like puppets compelled to enact roles prescribed by powers beyond their control. The machinery and structures are all made up of much smaller objects, giving the impression of a kaleidoscope opening up into ever more intricate worlds.
In Kill Pixie’s meticulously crafted work, the viewer senses the indomitable spirits of creativity, humor and resistance, and the power of adaptation. His work questions the games people are forced to play, as it fractures and realigns old divides between street and studio, and reinterprets the universal human struggle between our antagonistic instincts for freedom and control in the contemporary era. For Kill Pixie’s rapidly expanding audience around the world, the work points toward dynamic new understandings that will be necessary for survival in the future of our world.
Since 2006, Kill Pixie has shown in a constant stream of exhibitions in Los Angeles, London, Australia and Berlin. Izrock Pressings recently published his first book, Kill Communication. It includes 64 pages of fine art paintings and works on the street. Kill Pixie has also appeared in publications such as Juxtapoz, Modart Europe, Arkitip, and Monster Children.
In 2008, Kill Pixie was awarded the Sydney Music, Arts & Culture Award for Best Visual Artist. He currently lives and paints in Los Angeles, California.

Twenty Eight

Thanks Val and Vince! Even though your sister did all the work, you still get a little credit. I loved the cake! Keep the sweets coming!

Hands down, the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever tasted! Make sure and drop by the Nickel Diner soon!

Uhhh… This rock is from the moon. I felt nothing when I saw it. What does this mean?

Tesla coil! Electrifying!

A red moon. Awe the beautiful Southern Californian air.

Thanks for lunch, the delicious cake and my moccasins Elizabeth.

Uncle Jed learned a valuable lesson on his twenty eighth birthday. Do not bounce your nephew around and then proceed to put him on your shoulders. Bouncing babies tends to make them throw up. A lot! I greatly appreciate you picking chunks of food out of my hair and then washing it for me Jillian. Lesson learned!

Food was great dad!

Last weekend I turned Twenty Eight. It was a weekend packed to the brim with activities. Friday night we met up with Ryan & Dianne to celebrate his birthday at Tiki Ti. Saturday was brunch at the Nickel Diner and the rest of the afternoon at the Griffith Observatory. Sunday was Mom’s day and my birthday. So brunch with Jillian’s mom at Inka Grille and dinner with my mom.You see, twenty eight years ago I was born on Mother’s day and that night the hospital fed all the new moms steak and lobster. So it is now a tradition that every time Mother’s day and my birthday align, we have steak and lobster. My dad grilled up a mighty fine meal. Hoang had called earlier in the day and said Keane dropped by the store and he put my name on the list for a show they were playing that night, so Jillian and I dropped by just in time to grab a beer and catch the beginning of their set. But the weekend didn’t stop there. We finally end with Monday. My mom, brother, niece, nephew, Jillian, Courtney and myself had a fun filled day at Disney’s California Adventure. The best thing about it all was being around my loved ones. Wouldn’t change a thing!
